Nick explained how he met Olivia and how they began to talk, which led to their first date. Sylvia laughed. "Sounds like John's still up to his old tricks." "I think it was supposed to be more of a dare." Nick chuckled. "It appears you won, Nick. From what you've told me, she sounds lovely." "She is. You'll really like her." "Why don't you bring her by for a visit? It's been awhile since I've seen you and I miss you." "I miss you too, mum. When do you want us to come?" "How about tomorrow?" "That will be fine. See you tomorrow then." "Get some sleep, son. I'll see you tomorrow." "Bye mum." "Bye son." Nick hung the phone up and smiled. He knew his parents would love Olivia. He turned the lights off and walked up the stairs. Nick entered his room and could see Olivia curled up in the bed. He undressed and curled up behind her, feeling her warmth against his skin. "Ummm...there you are." she purred "I've been waiting for you." "Didn't mean to keep you waiting, luv. That was my mum that called." "I heard that. Is she ok?" "She misses me." "I bet she does, since you travel and work so much." "She wants us to come for a visit tomorrow." "She does?" "Umm-hmm....she's looking forward to meeting you. Mum and dad will love you." "I look forward to meeting your parents." "Good, I can show you some of Birmingham too." Olivia rolled over and faced Nick. He kissed her gently. "I had a good time tonight, Olivia." "Me too. Simon and Yas, John and Kate are fun." "They all adore you." "Oh Nick...." "They do, luv. And I have to admit that I rather enjoyed watching you dance around the kitchen. I thought you said you couldn't dance." "That was horrible!" she laughed " I was just having fun with the girls." He knew she was blushing. He kissed her cheek and felt the heat. Nick loved the fact that she blushed, he found it to be a very refreshing quality. His lips brushed her ear as he kissed her neck. Chills ran through Olivia's body, sending her further into his embrace. His kisses became harder when she wrapped her legs around his waist and pressed her body against his. She cradled his face in her hands and kissed his soft, full lips with wet, hungry kisses as she eased herself down on him. Olivia's fingers dug into his shoulders. Nick pulled back breathless and gripped her rocking hips, making her move faster. She wrapped her arms around him and clung to him as their bodies stiffened. Nick gently laid her down and held her. Their breathing still rapid and hearts still racing. Olivia cuddled close to him and buried her head under his chin. He stroked her hair, as their breathing returned to normal. Olivia awoke early. The fog was still low and the sun hadn't appeared yet. She looked at Nick, he was still sleeping. Olivia thought he was beautiful. She lightly ran her finger over his full, pouty lips that she loved to kiss. She gently ran her finger down his cheek. His eyes opened slowly and he smiled. "Good morning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?" he asked as he leaned in to kiss her. "Yes, I did." "Have you been up long?" "No, just for a few minutes." "Why don't we go shower and then we can get ready for our day." "Hmmm...I kinda like that idea, but you have to be good, or else we'll never leave the house." she laughed. "I'll be good. I promise." he vowed. "That's what I'm afraid of!" she said. We can't cancel on your parents." "I know, luv. I'll behave." Olivia and Nick willed themselves out of bed and into the shower. "Nick!" she squealed as he wrapped his arms around her. "I'm just holding you, that's all." "Ok...be good!" she laughed. They exited the shower and wrapped up in robes. Olivia began digging through her clothes. "Olivia? Are you alright, luv?" he asked. "Fine.....What on earth will I wear?" "Sweetheart, mum's not going to care about what you're wearing. Don't worry." "Oh my God, Nick........I'm nervous." "It's ok. Calm down. My parents will love you, I promise." He gave her a soft, soothing kiss. "Olivia, I love you, that's all that matters." Tears glistened in her eyes. "I love you too." she whispered. "Are you alright now?" "I think so."
They began getting dressed and ready. Nick slid his jacket on as the phone rang. "'Ello?" "Hi Nick, it's Yasmin." "Good morning." "I didn't wake you, did I?" "No. We're up already." "Can I speak to Olivia?" "Sure. Hold on, ok?" Nick said before he laid the phone down. "Sweetheart?" "Yes?" she said as she slipped into her shoes. "Yas is on the phone for you." Olivia picked up the phone. "Yasmin?" she asked. "Good morning, luv. How are you?" "Wonderful, and you?" "Doing fine. What are your plans for today?" "Nick and I are going to his parent's house." "Ah...going to Brum today. You'll love his parents, Liv." "I'm sure I will. I'm nervous and excited." "Liv, don't be nervous. You'll be fine and Nick will be there with you." "I know." "Call me when you get back and we'll get together." "Sounds good, Yasmin. I will." "Have fun today." "Thanks." "Bye, Liv." Olivia hung the phone up. She found Nick smiling at her. "What?" she laughed. "You look gorgeous." he replied as he took her in his arms and kissed her. "Thank you." she whispered, blinking the tears back. "Are you ready?" he asked. "Ready." They went downstairs and headed out to the car. "Still alright?" he asked as he opened her door. "I think so." she laughed. Nick entered the car and they drove off, heading to Brum. Nick and Olivia chatted and broke into hysterical laughter several times along the way. Nick stopped the car. "We're here, luv." Olivia drew a deep breath. "Ok, I can do this." They exited the car. Nick took Olivia's hand and held it tight as they walked to the door. Nick smiled at Olivia as he opened the door and entered the house. "Mum? We're here." Nick called. "We're in the kitchen." Sylvia replied. Nick entered first, still holding Olivia's hand. "Hi mum." Nick said as he hugged his mother. "Where's dad?" "Hello, son." Sylvia replied as a big smile appeared on her face. "I've missed you." "I've missed you too." he replied. He took Olivia's hand again. "Mum, this is Olivia." Sylvia smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Olivia." "Thank you. It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Bates." "Oh please, call me Sylvia. Roger should be down soon." "I'm here." Roger said as he gently slapped Nick's shoulder. "Dad, this is Olivia." "Hello, Olivia. I'm Roger." "It's nice to meet you, Roger." Olivia replied. "Olivia, Nick, let's go in the living room and relax." Sylvia said. "I've got some coffee ready if you'd like some, Olivia." "Thank you. I'd love some." "I'll help you, mum." Nick offered. He kissed Olivia gently. "I'll be right back..dad will keep you company." he whispered. Nick joined his mother in the kitchen. "I'll fix Olivia's." he said. "Nick, she's a lovely girl." Sylvia said with a smile. Sylvia and Nick looked at each other when they heard Roger and Olivia laughing in the living room. "Your father seems to like her." "I can only imagine what he's telling her." Nick laughed. "You were right about her." "What do you mean?" he asked. "You said I'd like her and you were right. She's very sweet." "I'm glad you like her....Now let's go back in there before dad tells her anymore horrible stories." Chapter Ninteen, con't.
Nick and Sylvia entered the living room with coffee, tea, and a tray of Shortbreads. Nick sat down on the couch next to Olivia and squeezed her hand. They stayed at his parents til late in the day, then it was time to make the drive back to London. Sylvia clung to her only child at the door as they said good bye. " Don't be such a stranger son. It wouldn't hurt ya to visit your old mum a little more often." she said with a smile. "I know mum. I promise I will." Nick said as he kissed her cheek. "Olivia is lovely. We adore her. Make this one happy Nick." Sylvia said as she gave her son one last hug. " That I can do." he said, as he made his way outside to say good bye to his dad and collect Olivia. Olivia fell asleep on the ride home. Nick awoke her when they pulled in is driveway. "We are home, luv." he said as he kissed her softly. " Hmm. Ok." she said as she stretched and yawned. They entered the house and Nick went to check the phone messages. Olivia stood beside him as they listened. The first was Yasmin being silly, the second was Sylvia saying for Nick to call her once they got home, the third was from Olivias' boss, Mr. Adkins. He needed for Olivia to call. Urgent he said. " I guess you had better call." Nick said as he handed her the phone, and excused himself. Half and hour later Olivia entered the kitchen where Nick was drinking a cup of tea. She sat down across from him and sighed. "What did he want luv?" Nick asked. "He wants me to cut my vacation short a few days. He said that there had been a new development in a case we have been working on, and since I am junior partner...." she let her voice trail off. "He wants you to handle it." Nick said finishing the sentence for her, as he watched the tears fill her eyes.
CHAPTER 20
Nick held his arms out to Olivia, she entered them and sat on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. "I'm so sorry, Nick." she whispered as tears streamed down her cheeks. "Shh...it's ok, sweetheart. Don't apologize, it's not your fault." "I know." she cried "I just hate to cut my time with you short." Olivia began to sob so hard that she couldn't talk anymore. Nick held her and tried to comfort her, even though his own heart was breaking. He stood up and carried Olivia into the living room. He gently sat her on the sofa. He went into the kitchen and came back with a glass of water for her. "Please drink this, sweetheart." Olivia took the glass and drank slowly. "Is there anything I can do? Anything I can get for you?" he asked. "No...thank you, Nick." she whispered as she stretched out on the sofa and laid down. Nick sat beside her. She fell asleep shortly after. He covered her with a blanket and went to the phone. "Hello?" "'Ello, mum. You wanted me to call?" "Yes, I just wanted to make sure you and Olivia made it home safely." "We're fine, mum. She had a great time." "I'm glad, son. We really like Olivia." "She likes you too." "Nick?" "Yes?" "Is something wrong? You sound upset." "Just a little bad news." he said, looking at Olivia as she slept. "What is it?" "Olivia's boss called and he needs her to cut her holiday a few days short." "I'm sorry, luv." "Me too. Olivia's beyond being upset. She cried so hard, mum. She cried herself to sleep. I don't know what to say or do for her." "I know you're upset too." "I love her, mum." "I know you do, son. Why don't you try to get some sleep and things will be better tomorrow." "Goodnight, mum." "Goodnight, luv." Nick hung the phone up and turned to Olivia. She looked peaceful in her sleep. Nick poured a glass of wine and sat down. He began to think of a way to deal with this. "Damn....there must be a way." he mumbled. Nick got up and went to Olivia. He decided against waking her, so he gently picked her up and carried her up to the bedroom. He laid her down on the bed and got her undressed before he pulled the covers over her. The thoughts kept flooding his mind as he undressed and got in bed. He held Olivia close to him and buried his face in the nape of her neck as he tried to find sleep. Nick awoke and glanced at the clock, it read 10:00. He saw Olivia was still deep asleep. He kissed her gently, got out of bed and headed downstairs. He was still tying the belt on his robe when the phone rang. "'Ello?" "Hi, Nick." "Good morning, Yasmin." "Hey, are you alright?" "I've been better." "Are you ok? Did something happen?" "Yeah....Olivia's boss called and he wants her to come back a few daysearly." "Oh Nick." "We're both heartbroken. Olviia cried so hard and she's so upset." "I'm so sorry, Nick. Is there anything I can do for either of you?" "Thanks, Yasmin. I appreciate it. I'm sure Olivia will call you today. She'll need a girlfriend to talk to." "I'm here if you two need me." "Thank you, Yas." "Bye, Nick." Nick hung the phone up, went into the kitchen and set about making some tea.
Nick put the tea in the cups to steep. He was startled when Olivia wrapped her arms around his waist. "Good morning, sweetheart." he said as he turned to face her. "Good morning." she replied with a smile. "I've made some tea for us. Are you hungry?" "Just the tea please. I'm not hungry." "Are you ok?" "I'm fine, Nick. I just want to enjoy the rest of my time here with you." "I was really worried about you, luv. You really scared me last night." "I'm sorry Nick. It's just when I spoke to Mr.Adkins, I got so emotional. Once I started crying, I couldn't stop." Nick pulled her close. He felt Olivia cling to him and let out a sigh. "How much longer can you stay?" he whispered. "Well, today's Wednesday and I have to leave on Saturday, so that gives us 4 more days." "That soon?" "Mr. Adkins wants me back at the firm on Monday morning. I'm so sorry, Nick." "Don't apologize, luv. This is your career. I know you have to be there. I just wish you didn't have to go." "I wish I didn't have to go either." Nick kissed her gently just as the phone rang. "I'll get that, luv." Nick said as he started towards the living room. Tears began to flood Olivia's eyes. She was trying to blot and blink the tears away when Nick entered the kitchen. "Sweetheart?" "I'm fine." she cried. "My mum's on the phone. She wants to speak to you." "Hello?" "Olivia, are you alright, dear?" Sylvia asked. "I think so." "Nick told me what happened. I know you're both upset." "Yes. I knew I was only going to be here for 2 weeks, but I didn't plan on this." Olivia cried. "Olivia, you and Nick are strong and he loves you more than you know. Everything will be fine, luv. You'll see." "I love him too, Sylvia." "I know you do dear, or else you wouldn't be so upset. Dry your tears and enjoy your time together. " "Thank you." Olivia whispered. "You're welcome, Olivia. I'll talk to you soon, dear." Olivia hung the phone up, wiped her tears away and thought about Sylvia's words. "I've got what's left of today and 3 days after to spend here with Nick." she thought "I want to enjoy them." Olivia went back to the kitchen. "Ah, there you are." Nick said as he handed her a cup of tea. "Sorry I was so long. I really like your mother." "She adores you, luv." "How do you know?" she laughed. "She told me when we were leaving yesterday." "Your parents are so sweet." "See, sweetheart. I told you, everybody that meets you loves you." "Oh Nick...." she sighed as the blush covered her cheeks. "I love you." he said, taking her hand. "I love you too." she replied, giving his hand a squeeze. "Speaking of people that love you, Yas called earlier." "I was supposed to call her last night. I completely forgot." "Well, why don't you call her now? I'm going to take a shower and then work on some music." "Are you going to the studio?" "Nah.....not for the next few days. I can work here. You go call Yas." he said as he stood up and bent down to kiss her. Nick left the kitchen and headed upstairs. Olivia went into the living room and called Yasmin. "'Ello?" "Yas. It's Olivia." "Olivia. How are you?" "I'm ok now. I think." "Nick told me the news. I'm sorry, luv." "Thanks Yas. Are you busy today?" "No. Did you have something in mind?" "Could you come over?" "Of course, luv. I'll be there in about 30 minutes." "See you then." Olivia hung the phone up and went upstairs.
Nick stood under the hot water, trying to soothe his frazzled nerves. A million thoughts cluttered his mind as he closed his eyes. A smile came to his lips when Olivia's warm lips kissed his shoulder. He turned to face her and pulled her into his wet embrace. "Did you call Yas?" "Ummm-hmmm. She'll be here in about half an hour." "Mmmm....." "I need this right now." she said as she hugged him tighter. "I need you." he purred. Nick covered her warm, wet lips with his, kissing her tenderly. Olivia pulled away slowly. He saw the tears in her eyes. "What is it, luv? What's wrong?" "Nothing's wrong. I......" "Sweetheart? Talk to me." "I want you, Nick. I want you to make love to me. I need you." she whispered in his ear as she turned the water off. Olivia pushed the door open while Nick kissed her. They slowly entered the bedroom, still clinging to each other as they fell on the bed. Their still-wet bodies entwined. He gave her long, warm kisses. Chills shot through his body when she lightly ran her nails up his back. Nick felt her body arch against his and her fingers digging into his back.............. Nick and Olivia held each other, still breathing rapidly. He covered her face with soft, sweet kisses. She ran her finger down his cheek and along his jaw line. "Mmmm..." he sighed "Didn't you say Yas was coming over, luv?" "Oh God!" Olivia laughed "I guess I should get dressed. But truth be known, I'd rather lay here with you." "I rather like that idea." he purred. Olivia set about getting dressed for Yasmin's arrival. She leaned down to kiss Nick, who was still lounging on the bed. He grabbed her hand and pulled her close. "I love you, Olivia." She kissed him again. "I love you too." They heard the doorbell. "Yasmin's here." he said "You two enjoy your visit." "We will." Olivia laughed as she left the bedroom. She descended the stairs and went to the door. Yasmin greeted her with a hug. "How are you?" asked Yasmin. "I'm fine." Olivia said with a smile. "You look great, luv. You're practically glowing." "Must've been all the crying." Olivia joked as the two friends went into the kitchen.
