"Ello luv." John said, kissing Erin
"Hey you." she replied, closing the door behind him.
"What would you like to do tonight?" he asked, slipping his arms around her.
"Huh? Right, ummm....whatever you want to do."
"You alright, luv?"
"Sure, why do you ask?"
"You seem preoccupied."
"I do?"
"You do." John said, taking her hand and sitting with her on the sofa. "What's wrong? Talk to me Erin."
"Well, I spoke to Elena earlier and she said Nick was acting strange before we left Rome and then she told me that he hasn't called or gone by her place since we got back."
"Hmm....that is rather odd."
"That's what I thought, but I just told Elena he was probably still in bed, fighting jet lag."
"Good move. Ya know, I haven't heard from Nick either. Maybe I should give him a call."
"You think?" Erin asked.
"Yeah. I'll call him and see what's going on." John assured her as he reached for the phone.
****
"Ello?" Nick asked.
"Hiya." John replied.
"Hey Johnny, what's going on?"
"Ah, nothing really, just relaxing at Erin's. What's going on with you?"
"Ummm...nothing, why?" "C'mon Nick, you're talking to me, don't try to bullshit me. I can tell when something's up with you."
"Ok, ok." Nick sighed.
"Wanna talk about it and tell me what's going on?"
"Not over the phone."
"Do you want to meet me somewhere?"
"Sure, that would be fine."
"Ok, meet me at the pub down from Erin's flat, ok? How long will it take you?"
"Give me 15 minutes."
"See you then." John said before he laid the phone down.
"Nothing, eh?" Erin asked
"Well, not as of yet, but once I get to the pub, he'll start talking." John chuckled.
"You're not gonna torture him are you?" she laughed.
"Nah, I won't have to. If something's bothering him, he'll tell me. No worries there."
"You'd better get going if you're gonna meet him there."
"Right. I won't be gone long, I promise." John said, hugging her close.
"Don't worry about it. Take as long as you need. I'll still be here." Erin teased.
"Mmmm...I look forward to seeing you soon then." John said, kissing her before he left to meet Nick.
****
"Johnny! Over here." Nick called from a booth in the far corner of the pub.
"Hiya mate." John said, taking his seat.
"How 'bout a drink?" Nick asked.
"Nah, I'm fine."
"I know, you came to talk." Nick said.
"No, actually, I came to listen while you talk about what's going on with you."
"Like what?"
"Well, like the fact that you haven't called or seen Elena since we got home from our holiday. And, she said you were acting strange before we left."
"Oh shit...." Nick mumbled.
"What?"
"She doesn't think I'm upset with her, does she?"
"No, Erin covered your ass and said that you were probably asleep, trying to kick jet lag."
"I'll have to thank Erin then."
"What? Why?"
"'Cos, I'm not mad or upset with Elena."
"What then?" John asked.
"I'm in love with her, John. I'm in love with Elena."
"Tell her, Nick."
"I can't...it's not that easy."
"What in the hell are you talking about?" John asked, feeling completely confused.
"I can't tell her John. Elena and I had a talk about us while we were in Rome. Elena wants to take things slow, since her past relationships weren't that great. We decided that we are exclusive, but taking it slow." Nick explained.
"That's why you were acting strange then?"
"I dunno about acting strange, but I suppose I was a little quiet. I didn't know quite how to handle it. I can't just tell her like you told Erin."
"I guess that would be hard to deal with." John said. "But you've gotta call her mate. Let her know everything's alright."
"How do I explain my behaviour before we left Rome?"
"Tell her you weren't feeling well, tell her you were sad cos our holiday was over....you'll figure it out."
"Yeah, you're right." Nick sighed. "I do need to call her. Better yet, I'll go to her place."
"Now you're thinking right, Rhodes!" John laughed.
"Thanks John. I really needed to get that out."
"Not a problem, mate."
"Go on and get back to Erin, cos I know she's waiting for you. I've gotta get to Elena's." Nick said before rushing out of the pub.
****
Elena had finished unpacking and was relaxing on the sofa with a much needed glass of wine, trying to figure out Nick's odd behaviour, when there was a knock on her door.
"Bloody neighbours." she grumbled as she made her way to the door and opened it. "Nick." she gasped in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"The door was open. I hope you don't mind. I wanted to see you Elena." he said, handing her a bouquet of fresh calla lillies.
"What are these for?" she asked, inhaling their beautiful scent.
"I'm sorry, Elena." Nick said sincerely.
"For what?" she questioned, closing the door behind him.
"For acting like such a prat. I'm sorry I didn't call or come by."'
"It's ok." she assured him, breathing a sigh of relief.
"I guess I just wasn't ready to leave Rome yet. I enjoyed our time there."
"Me too, Nick. I had such a wonderful time with you."
"I'm glad, luv."
"Thank you so much for taking me."
"You're very welcome luv, but there's no need to thank me. I wanted to do it." he explained as he leaned in to kiss her.
"Mmmm...do that again." she giggled, pulling Nick down on the sofa with her.
"So?" Erin asked as John walked through the door.
"Wot?" John asked, feigning innocence.
"You know bloody well what!" Erin laughed as she swatted him. "What did Nick have to say?"
"Well" John began "He didn't realise he was acting strange before we left and he didn't mean to worry Elena."
"So, what's going on with him then?" she asked as she sat on John's lap.
"He's in love with her, Erin."
"Oh my God! That's wonderful!"
"Whoa...slow down."
"What? It's great, isn't it?" "Yes luv, of course it is. But, Nick can't tell her how he feels. He's afraid if he does, he'll push her away or scare the hell out of her. Elena wants to take things slow with Nick."
"Yes, I know. Elena told me they had a talk about their relationship in Rome. The fact that they're exclusive is a great thing, cos her last relationship-if you can call it that-was horrible."
"I know, Nick mentioned that."
"Wow...Nick's in love with her. It's kind of crazy if you think about it."
How's that?" John asked, pulling her close.
"Well, we forced them together on a blind date. They didn't want to be there, or have anything to do with each other. She agrees to have dinner with him and now, a couple of months later, they're happy and he's in love with her. Do you think he'll tell her?"
"I'm sure he will in the future, or when the time is right."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Erin sighed as she kissed his square jaw.
****
"Mmmm...you were wonderful." Elena managed to say as she caught her breath from their lovemaking.
"Hmmm...you too, luv. Dunno how we managed it on the sofa though." he chuckled.
"I don't care how we managed it, it was incredible." she said as she kissed his pouty lips.
"Stop that or I'll do it again." he purred
"What?" she giggled as she kissed him again.
"Right. That's it. Nick said before he rolled on top of Elena and began kissing her hungrily and made love to her again.
"So..are you gonna tell me the truth about what was bothering you?" Elena said as she propped herself up on her elbow. "I did." Nick said turning to face her. "I don't think so, Nick." "Ele...not now, ok?" "Now Nick. I would hate to think there are secrets between us." she said caressing his face. He grabbed her hand and kissed her palm. "I just don't think you are ready to hear what I have to say." "How about you let me be the judge of that, yeah?" "Ele...I really care about you. I love being with you. I realised in Italy just how much you mean to me." "I enjoy being with you too, Nick." "I don't just enjoy being with you Elena...I think I am falling in love with you." Nick whispered. "Nick...we talked about this..I'm not ready." "I know, but I can't change how I feel. I told you that you didn't want to know." Nick said sitting up and pulling on his pants.
"I've really fucked it up this time." Elena said as Erin answered the phone. "What's up, Ele?" "I think I really messed things up with Nick." "Why? What happened?" "He came over last night. We made love twice and things were great til I asked him to tell me what was really bothering him." "And he said?" " That he is in love with me." Elena sighed. "Aw Ele... don't you want that?" Erin asked. "I don't know Erin. I am just so afraid." Elena said as she broke down into tears. "Shh...it's ok sweetie. We'll work it out, ok?" "I know...I'm just afraid I've lost him." Elena said as she felt a nagging pain coming on from the back of her head.
"Ele, you haven't lost him."
"Then why did he get dressed and leave after I told him I wasn't ready?" Elena sobbed.
"He probably needed some space and to think. Give him time, he'll be alright."
"Why am I so fucked up? Mark loved me and I left him cos he ignored me. Daniel only wanted me in bed. I was in love with him and he didn't feel the same for me. Now I'm with Nick and I really like him a lot and I enjoy his company. He likes me, he pays attention to me and makes me feel special. He tells me he's in love with me and I turn him away. What the hell's wrong with me?"
"Nothing's wrong with you, Ele. Look, your past relationships haven't been the best and that's all you have to go on. Just like me with Richard, but I know John loves me and I found I'm not afraid to love him. Nick's not gonna treat you wrong, he treats you like a queen. He's crazy about you...give the man a chance."
"He'll probably never talk to me again." Elena said through sobs.
"He'll be fine, luv. Do you want me to come over?"
"Thanks Erin. I appreciate it, but I'll be fine. I'm just gonna take some asprin for this bloody headache and then go to sleep."
"Ok. Call me if you need me. I love ya, Ele."
"I will. I love you too."
Elena laid the phone down and went in search of the asprin. She found them, managed to get them down and crawled into bed. She lay awake for a few minutes before sleep claimed her.
****
"Ello?" Elena mumbled, still half asleep.
"Ele...are you alright?" Nick asked with concern in his voice.
"Ummm-hmmm... I'm fine."
"Did I wake you?"
"I think I just dozed off. I had a headache."
"I'm sorry, luv." Nick said sincerely.
"It's ok, it was just a headache."
"No Ele. I mean I'm sorry for the way I behaved when I left."
"It's ok, Nick. I suppose I can't blame you though. Are you upset with me?"
"No, I'm not upset with you. You can't help the way you feel. Are you upset with me for leaving and behaving like a prat?"
"No, I know you just needed some space and time alone."
"Ele?"
"Yes?"
"Would it be alright if I came over? I'd really like to see you and I loathe apologising over the phone."
"Sure. I'll see you soon then."
Elena disconnected their call and set about getting ready for Nick's arrival. She'd called Erin and filled her in on the conversation she'd had with Nick. No sooner had she hung up, did the door buzzer sound.
"Ele..." was all he said as he held her close to him.
"I'm sorry Nick." Elena sobbed.
"Shhhh...sweetheart, it's ok." he assured her as he pulled her onto his lap and held her.
"Ele." he said gently "I know you want to take things slow and I understand this. I don't want the feelings I have to mess up what we have. I'll go as slow as you want, but it won't change how I feel about you."
"I'm glad you were honest with me." Elena said through her tears. "I don't want any secrets between us."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you this in Italy, but after our conversation about us, I was afraid to tell you." Nick admitted as he laid her head on his shoulder.
"S'alright." she whispered "We're fine."
"I'm glad ." he purred as he kissed her hungrily.
Elena returned his kiss eventhough the pain in her head was almost too much to bear. She pulled away breaking the kiss. "What is it, luv?" Nick asked concerned. "My head...it's killing me." she said as she winced. "Did you take anything for it?" "Yeah...it's not helping though." "Come on." Nick said standing and taking her hand. They walked to Elenas bedroom where Nick drew the blinds. "Lay down. I'll go make you some tea. Are you hungry?" "Yeah actually." she said as she crawled into the bed. "Ok..I'll be back in a bit." he said leaning over to kiss her forehead. Nick disappeared out of sight and headed towards the kitchen.
When Nick returned, he found Elena fast asleep. H e sat beside her, looking down at her beautiful face as he gently ran his finger down her cheek.
*****
"Hi." Nick whispered as Elena's eyes opened.
"What time is it?" she asked.
"It's late, almost 1:30am."
"Wow, I was out for awhile."
"Yeah, I'd say all the fun from our holiday left you a bit knackered."
"You're probably right. Ummm, Nick?"
"Yes, luv?" "Have you been here watching over me the whole time I was sleeping?"
"I was. I wanted to make sure you were ok."
"Thank you." Elena managed to whisper.
"How's your headache? Are you feeling better?" Nick asked softly.
"I feel much better. Guess I just needed some sleep." she said, yawning.
"I'm glad you're feeling better, but you should probably try to get some more sleep, since you'll be back at the office in the morning."
"Ugh...don't remind me."
"Don't think about it, just get some sleep." he said as he bent and kissed her forehead.
"Nick?"
"Yes, luv?"
"Will you stay with me?"
"Of course, Ele. I had every intention of staying." he said, curling up behind her and holding her close.
*****
"So, how'd everything go with Nick?" Erin asked, taking a seat in front of Elena's desk.
"Everything went fine." Elena smiled.
"See, I told you so."
"I know, I know." Elena groaned.
"Did you two go out then?"
"No. Why?"
"Well, I called last night. I left a message cos there was no answer."
"We were there all night. Wait, Nick must've turned the ringers off cos I had a migraine or something."
"You ok now?"
"Yeah, fine. Nick took care of me."
"I'll bet he did." Erin said, wagging her eyebrows.
"No. Not like that you nympho!" Elena laughed. "He was sweet, really. He watched over me while I slept and he held me all night after I woke up."
"He's a good man, Ele." Erin said matter of factly.
"Yes, I know he is. You don't have to sell me on his good qualities, Erin. I'm very aware of them. I just want to go slow. Nick understands."
"I'm glad everything is sorted out."
"Yeah, me too. I really like Nick."
"Hey, what are you doing tonight?"
"No plans yet, why?"
"How 'bout a girls night? You know, pizza and a few bottles of wine? We'll let the boys have the night off and they can hang out."
"Sounds great. Come over after work and we'll get started early." Elena giggled.
"You've got it."
*****
"Elena Touchstone."
"'Ello, luv." Nick replied.
"Hey you."
"How are you?"
"I'm fine, just finishing the files that accumulated on my desk."
"Had a busy day then?"
"No. Not too bad."
"Good. I just wanted to see how you're doing."
"Thank you, Nick. I appreciate you taking care of me yesterday and last night."
"Don't thank me. I care about you, Ele. I was concerned."
"Thanks, Nick. I'm fine now."
"So, what have you and Erin got planned for tonight?"
"Ah, you've heard about the plans for tonight, eh?"
"Yeah, John just informed me that he'll be hanging out with me tonight."
"Oh, you poor baby. Erin and I will be thinking about you when the strippers show up." she laughed.
"Ah, touche'. You should feel sorry for me, considering Taylor will do nothing except talk about Erin."
"I think I know how to ease your pain." she purred.
"Do you now?" he teased.
"Ummm-hmmm...come by later tonight, like after John's curfew."
"Alright, see you then. Have fun with Erin."
"I will. See you later. Bye Nick."
"Bye Ele."
Elena hung up and smiled. She cleared the last file away and headed home to meet Erin for their evening of fun.
****
"Ok." Elena said, sipping her wine. "Tell me how things are going with you and John."
"Oh Ele, I couldn't be happier. He's perfect. I never thought a man or a relationship could be so wonderful, especially after Richard the bastard. But, John's proven me wrong."
"I'm so glad. It makes me happy to see you so happy." Elena said truthfully.
"Thanks, Ele. Now, tell me about you and Nick."
"We're great. He's wonderful and very patient."
"Patient for sure. He's still in love with you. Those feelings won't change."
"I know. He told me he can't change the way he feels about me."
"Does that bother you?"
"No, not at all, cos he understands that I want to go slow. I like him a lot and I care about him, but I don't want to rush into the love thing. I did that with Daniel and you see what happened."
"Yeah, but this is a totally different situation. Nick isn't like Daniel. Nick loves you and he is in love with you and you know he's for real. Daniel on the other hand turned into a right prick who now dates tarts cos he can't have you." Erin said, making them both go into a fit of laughter.
*****
"Wonder what the girls are up to?" John said, sipping his lager.
"You mean besides groping the stippers?"
"Wot?" John asked, almost snorting the lager out of his nose.
"Only joking. There aren't any strippers there. Honestly, I'd say they're talking about us and laughing at us."
"Scary thought, Rhodes." John chuckled. "So, how are things with you and Elena anyway?" "Things are going very well. She knows how I feel and we're going to take it slow. I find it hard sometimes to stop myself from telling her I love her."
"Just tell her then. I didn't think about it when I told Erin. It's just how I felt."
"Speaking of Erin....you two seem to be pretty serious."
"Yeah, we are."
"Uh-oh, Taylor. Are we talking the "M" word?
"I dunno...I just know I don't want to be without her."
"Very serious, I'd say." Nick laughed.
"Think they're pissed by now?"
"Those two?" Nick chuckled. "No way. You know as well as I do that it takes more than a few bottles of wine to affect them."
"True. It was around around bottle number 6 when they started singing "That's Amore'". John said, causing them to burst into hysterical laughter.
The two gentlemen regained their composure after their fit of laughter. "So, when are the Le Bons due back?" Nick asked taking a drink. "Um..next week I think." "Thank God. I am ready to get back to work." "Yeah. Me too.I hope he wrote some lyrics while he's been on that bloody boat for the last 3 months." "With Yas and the girls running around? He probably didn't even have time to think let alone write." Nick laughed.
"Ugh..shouldn't have had that last glass...now I gotta waz." Elena said heading towards the bathroom. Erin sat in the floor looking at a magazine when the buzzer to Elenas flat rang. "I'll get it." Erin called to Elena. "Ok." Erin reached for the door and opened it. "Oh bloody hell..." Erin mumbled as Elena came out of the bathroom. "Fuck me...What the hell are you doing here, Daniel?" Elena asked coming down the hallway into the livingroom. "I thought you might be alone." Daniel said glancing at Erin "How stupid of me." he continued. "Well....what do you want?" Elena asked in an irritated tone. "I wanted to talk...Privately." "Jesus." Elena said motioning for Daniel to follow her out to the balcony. "Lena..I've been going crazy without you." he started as soon as they were outside. "Daniel...don't." "I have Lena.I think about you constantly. I keep comparing all the women I meet to you and they fall short every time." "I can't, I won't do this again, Daniel.I have Nick and he is wonderful." "Do you love him, Lena? Can he do the things to you that I do?" Daniel asked stepping in closer to Elena. Elena felt her head spin. "Daniel, don't. Please go..Please." "Fine..I'll go, but I'm not giving up Lena." he said as he leaned in and kissed her. Daniel turned and made his way back in the flat then out the front door. "Holy Fuck!" Erin said as she slammed the door behind him. "What was THAT about?!" she asked as she stepped out to where Elena was still standing. "Honestly, I don't know." Elena said looking at Erin.
"What did he want?" Erin questioned.
"He wants me back." Elena replied, still stunned.
"I hope you told that bastard off."
"I did. I told him no. I told him I have Nick."
"Good on ya, Ele. Now, let's not let that prick ruin our evening." Erin said, draping her arm around Elena's shoulders as they returned to the living room.
******
"Party's over!" Erin laughed as Nick and John entered the living room. "Ele, did you get rid of all the strippers?"
"Ha, ha...very funny." John said, kissing her.
"Nick, did you tell John about the strippers after we swore you to secrecy?" Elena teased.
"Guilty." Nick replied with a laugh.
"You two have a good night." Erin said, as she and John prepared to leave.
"Thanks Erin, we will." Nick said wrapping his arms around Elena.
"See you later." Elena said.
"Ah....alone with you at last." Nick whispered in her ear.
"Did you and John have a good time?"
"Yeah, we did. How 'bout you and Erin?"
"We had a blast, of course."
"I'm glad." Nick said. "Ummm....Ele?"
"Yes?"
"Is everything ok? You seem a bit distracted."
"Yeah...I'm just a bit pissed off."
"Why? What happened?" Nick asked with concern.
"I dunno if you're gonna want to hear this. It isn't pleasant."
"What is it, luv? You can talk to me." he said with a feeling of dread coming over him.
"Well." Elena began "Daniel came by awhile ago."
"Are you ok? Did he bother you?"
"I'm fine. He didn't touch me or anything. I'm just mad as hell."
"Tell me what happened."
"That egotistical bastard came over here expecting me to fall at his feet, while he made empty promises he could never keep after I told him that I have you and how wonderful you are. I told him to get out and I'm surprised Erin didn't kill him when she saw the smug look on his face. She hates him."
"I'm sorry he ruined your night." Nick said, taking her into his arms again. She melted into him, feeling secure and warm in his emrace.
"It's ok. I knew it was something that would happen sooner or later. Now do you understand why I want to take things slow?"
"Yes Ele, I do."
"I rushed in to fast with him, Nick. I fell in love with him, knowing he was a scoundrel and it wouldn't be returned, but hoping like hell he'd change. He hurt me."
Nick lifted her chin with his hand and gazed into her eyes. "Ele, I'm sorry you got hurt in the past. I really am and I'm glad you trust me enough to talk to me about this."
"I do trust you, Nick."
He buried his face in her hair as he hugged her. "I know how to ease your pain." he purred in her ear.
"Do you know?" she teased. "I thought it was I who knew how to ease your pain."
"You do my luv, you do." he managed in a deep throaty voice.
**************************
"Mind if I bother ya?" Erin asked as she stuck her head through Elena's office door. "Sure...come on in.What's up?" Elena asked taking off her reading glasses. "Well...I've been thinking." "Oh shit...call out the guards." Elena teased. "Ha,ha.I'm being serious." "Ok...what is it Erin." "I was thinking about asking John if he wants to move in together." "Get out!" Elena squealed. "Well...I mean he is over just about every night of the week...and I spend alot of time at his house on the weekends. It's just kinda crazy to keep going back and forth.Don't ya think?" Erin asked nervously. "I am so happy for you,Erin.I think you should go for it." Elena said giving her best friend a hug.
"So you don't think this is crazy or going a bit too fast?" Erin asked.
"Honestly, I don't. You and John are in love. And you are right, you two *are* together every night."
"Thanks Ele. I knew you'd understand."
"So, when are ya gonna ask him about it?"
"Well, I was kinda thinking about doing it tonight." Erin laughed nervously.
"We're not a bit anxious, are we?" Elena teased.
"Maybe a little and a little scared."
"C'mon, it'll be fine. Be calm and relax." Elena ordered.
"I'll try." Erin chuckled.
*******
"Where are we going?" Erin asked.
"It's a surprise. Keep your eyes closed." John purred as he drove.
"Ok, ok. Where are we at least?"
"We're currently on Sloane Street."
"Sloane Street could take us anywhere, John. You're being very vague."
"It's completely on purpose too." he laughed.
"Can't I just peek?" she begged.
"You can in a minute." John said as he stopped the car. "You can open them Erin." he said a few moments later.
Erin opened her eyes and looked at John.
"C'mon, let me take you to your surprise. " he beemed.
"My surprise is at Hyde park?"
"Ummm-hmmm...come along, luv." John said, taking her hand as they walked through the park.
Several minutes later, they were approaching the bank of the Serpentine. John covered Erin's eyes with his hands.
"What's this?" Erin managed as tears filled her eyes when she saw the gorgeous and romantic picnic John had by the water.
"This is for you sweetheart." he said as he handed her 3 long stemmed roses.
"Oh my God." Erin whispered. "you didn't have to do all of this."
"I wanted to. Shall we eat?" he asked, taking her hand.
They enjoyed their dinner and were relaxing, while watching the stars and the light from the moon reflecting off the water.
"John, this is the sweetest surprise I've ever recieved." Erin said as she leaned in to kiss him.
"I'm glad you liked it."
"Liked it? I loved it."
"I love you." he purred, pulling her closer to him.
"I love you too." she said, staring deep into his chocolate eyes. "John?"
"Yes, luv?"
"I think we should go?"
"Why? Is something wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, save for the fact I want you to make love to me right now...and we can't very well do that here."
"Right now, eh?" John managed as he kissed her neck.
"Now." she breathed "We have to go now....cos if you don't stop, I'm pretty sure we'd end up being arrested."
"Let's go then." John said, pulling her up.
Seconds later, they were running though the park, trying to get to the car as fast as they could. By the time they'd reached the door to John's house, they were in a frenzy. Erin's legs were wrapped tightly around his waist. He carried her into the living room and they fell to the floor, still locked in a deep kiss. Their fingers worked quickly to remove their clothes. The feeling of their warm, naked skins pressed together was almost enough to drive them insane.
"Now John....Please." Erin whimpered as she begged to feel him deep within her.
He thrust himself into her warm, wet body. Forcing himself to go slow, or else he'd climax right then. He moved against her slowly, feeling her hips meeting his with each stroke. Erin's nails ran down the smooth skin of his back, causing his thrusts to become harder and faster. A long scream of release tore from her throat. The waves of her orgasm tearing though his whole body and bringing him to the edge as he growled her name into the air.
John laid on Erin, spent and clutching to her. Their breathing still ragged, their sweat moistened bodies entwined. He raised slightly and looked down at her face and smiled sweetly.
"What's that sly looking smile all about Mr. Taylor? You look like the cat who just ate the canary."
"I do?" he asked in a surprised tone.
"Yes, you do. What are you up to?"
"Just thinking....we need to talk."
"Uh-oh. This can't be good."
"It's nothing bad, I promise luv."
"Ok." Erin said, drawing a breath and gathering courage. "What's on your mind cos I have something I want to talk to you about too."
"Ok. Well, you...me...us..."
"Obviously, so what is it?" she asked, beginning to feel defensive.
"Well, we've been going out for awhile and even though it's not been an extremely long relationship, I love you. I'm completely in love with you. I believe I loved you straight away, Erin."
"That's so sweet, John. But I sense a 'but' coming up."
"Calm down, luv. As I said, I know we haven't been together very long, but I was wondering if you'd consider moving in here with me."
"What!?!" Erin said, half stunned.
"Will you move in with me?" John repeated.
"Oh my God!" Erin laughed "That's what I was gonna ask you tonight."
"No way! Were you really?" John asked.
"I swear to God. I was just telling Elena about it this afternoon and she told me to go for it."
"So, whaddaya say?" John smiled.
"I say yes!" Erin yelled. "Yes!"
*****
"Ello?" Elena croaked.
"Ele....you busy?' Erin asked.
"No, I wouldn't say I'm terribly busy at 3:00am. Nick and I were sleeping."
"I didn't wake Nick did I?"
"No, he's still sleeping. Funny, you've known Nick a couple of months and you worry about wether or not you've awakened him...You've known me your whole life and you could care less if you wake me or not."
"Elena!" Erin said.
"Wot?"
"John asked me to move in with him." Erin squealed.
"He what? You're joking!!"
"No joke. He really did. I didn't even get a chance to bring it up to him."
"So, what did you say?"
"Ele! What the hell are you talking about? Whaddaya think I said?"
"I'm thinking you probably said yes."
"I did. I said yes. Oh Ele...everything was perfect tonight. He took me to Hyde park and had a picnic waiting for me on the bank by the Serpentine."
"Awwww....Erin, I'm really happy for you. I'm glad everything is going so great for you and John."
"Thanks Ele. I am too. So what about you and Nick?"
"Erin, Nick and I are just fine. We're happy and things couldn't be any better with us right now. We're just going slow, per my request."
"You two look really happy." Erin smiled.
"We are. Now, go crawl back in bed with that man of yours." Elena laughed.
"Who was that?" Nick asked groggily, turning to face Elena. "It was Erin. Go back to sleep." "Is everything ok? Is Johnny alright?" "They are fine. Just she had some news to tell me." "Something good I hope." "Yeah...John asked her to move in with him tonight." "Wow...that's great. They belong together." Nick said honestly. "I think so too." Elena said snuggling Nick's side. Nick wrapped his arms around Elena. He was genuinely happy for John and Erin. John had been his best friend for their whole lives...he deserved to be happy. But Nick had to admit that he longed to have the same thing with the woman he was holding in his arms.He loved her so much...he had met his match when he met her. Nick tightened his hold on Elena and drifted back off to sleep.
"Finally." Elena sighed as she and Erin took their table at Flanagan's.
"What? Rough day?" Erin asked.
"No, not really. Just this stupid headache."
"Migraine?"
"Oh God no. Nothing like what I had the last time. It's more like a stress induced one. So, when are you gonna start moving your stuff to John's?"
"Good way to change the subject, Ele." Erin chuckled. "I'm gonna do it this weekend."
"Need any help?"
"Of course. I know John's gonna ask Nick about helping."
"Nick will help...I know for a fact."
"Ele, has Nick brought up moving forward in your relationship?"
"No. I told him why I was leery about going to fast. He understands, Erin."
"I know he understands, but I also know he's in love with you. Ele, that man loves you."
"I know...I know. I just want to take it slow. Jesus, if I'd met Nick before I'd met Daniel, things would be different. A lot different."
"Yeah, you and Nick would be married with a couple of kids probably." Erin laughed.
*****
"Erin, you are such a pack rat! Look at all these boxes." Elena exclaimed as she and Nick entered Erin's flat.
"I've lived here forever, whaddaya expect?" Erin laughed.
"Ok guys, let's get these boxes down to the moving van." John said.
The foursome loaded all the boxes in the van and headed to John's.
"Where in the world are we gonna put all these boxes?" Nick asked as he looked around John's living room.
"Just bring 'em in here, mate." John called from the dining room.
"John, Ele and I are gonna go and collect the breakable stuff. We'll be right back." Erin announced as she and Elena entered the room.
"Be careful." John said, hugging Erin close.
"Yes, be careful, luv." Nick agreed.
"Always." Elena chuckled, giving Nick a gentle kiss.
Nick and John watched the girls leave and got back to work on the boxes.
"Something wrong?" John asked, noticing Nick had been unusually quiet.
"No, I'm fine, why?"
"C'mon Nick, I've known you forever. I know when something's up...And something's definitely up. Is it Elena? You're not having problems, are you?"
"No, we're not having problems. Nothing like that."
"What then?" John asked, concerned.
"I guess seeing you and Erin moving forward makes me want the same thing. We're going slow and I couldn't be happier with Ele, but I love her and find it so damn hard no to tell her sometimes." Nick explianed.
"Have you discussed this with her?"
"Yes. We talked about it. She's afraid, John. Her last relationship, if you cna call it that, was really bad. She understands that I'm not going anywhere though and she knows I love her and that my feelings aren't going to change."
"All you can do is keep reassuring her."
"I plan to." Nick said with a sly smile.
"We're back!" the girls yelled, running through the house.
"What's left to unload?" Erin asked.
"It's done. Now all we have to do is unpack it." John laughed.
"Ugh!" Erin groaned.
"Just take a break and come back to it later." Elena suggested.
"Thank you both so much for helping today. John and I really appreciate it." Erin said, hugging Elena and Nick.
"You're welcome, Erin. It was our pleasure." Nick assured her.
"I guess we should get going so these lovebirds can start getting their lovenest sorted out." Elena chuckled.
"Har, har...very funny." Erin laughed.
"How about we all have dinner over here one night next week?" Erin asked.
"That's a great idea, luv." John said, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"Wait, you're gonna let Erin cook? The woman who can't even boil a pot of water? Make sure the medics are waiting outside afterward so they can take us to hospital." Elena said, trying not to laugh.
"Bite me! I can cook." Erin replied, also trying not to laugh.
"They sound like the female versions of us, Rhodes." John quipped.
"Scary thought, Taylor...scary thought." Nick said with a smile.
Nick and Elena said their final goodbyes and headed out the door. They made their way to Elena's flat. "Are you gonna stay tonight?" Elena asked Nick. "Don't tempt me luv. I have a ton of business calls I need to make so I had better go on home tonight." "Ok.I had a great day though.Seeing Erin so happy is important to me." "I know luv." "We couldn't be closer...even if we were sisters. Sometimes I feel like we are even closer than that.We chose eachother..it's not like we had to grow up competing or anything." "I know how you feel.Goodnight Elena." Nick said pulling her close and kissing her deeply.
"What the hell?" Elena asked, awakened from a deep sleep by the banging on her front door. "Who is it?" she asked. "It's me..Mark." "Double shit." Elena sighed as she opened the door to see a very drunk Mark on the other side. "What are you doing here, Mark?" "Can I come in?" he slurred. "Come on before the neighbors get nosey." Elena said stepping aside to let Mark enter. "I'm sorry Elena. I wasn't gonna do this. But I am so miserable." Mark said almost in tears. "What's wrong?" "Me...Elena. I'm what's wrong.I was wrong to ever let you walk out of my life. To let you file for Divorce...to not fight for what we had." "Shit Mark. Why are you doing this?" Elena asked "Because I still love you, Ele.I go to bed every night in the bed we use to make love in...in the house where we had so much laughter. It's all dead now." Mark said breaking into sobs. Elena felt her heart break. Mark had been the first man she had ever loved. He was her first on so many levels. "Shh...it's ok Mark." Elena soothed wrapping her arms around him.Mark returned her embrace and clung to her for dear life. Out of nowhere Elena felt Marks lips cover hers in a warm tender kiss. Elena wanted to resist but found her self totally wrapped up in the moment.Mark swept Elena into his arms and headed for the bedroom.
Elena called her office early, knowing that her assistant Jude would already be in. "Jude, this is Ms. Touchstone. Can you cancel all my appointments for the day? I am a bit under the weather." "Certainly ma'am. Anything else you need?" "Yeah. Can you leave a message for Erin that I will give her a ring later?" "Sure thing Ms. Touchstone." "Thanks Jude." Elena hung up the phone and looked over at the still sleeping Mark. "What have I gotten myself into?" she whispered with tears in her eyes.
Elena put her head in her hands, trying to figure out exactly how this had happened. Mark's groggy, hungover grunt brought her back to reality.
"Elena?" Mark managed to whisper. "Why are you crying? What's wrong?"
"Everything, Mark. Everything's wrong."
"Can you explain to me what happened and why I'm in your bed?"
"You don't remember, do you?"
"Not really...I remember drinking quite a bit last night."
"You were pretty pissed when you showed up." Elena began "You came in and proceeded to tell me how you feel about me. I hated seeing you so hurt, Mark. I held ou and the next thing I know you were kissing me and we were in my bed. I just don't know how this happened Mark." she explained, sobbing again.
"Did we...?" he whispered.
"Shag? Yes, we did." she sobbed even harder.
"Elena, I'm really sorry. I didn't plan this, I swear. But my feelings haven't changed."
"You don't understand Mark. Reguardless of my feelings toward you, I have a relationship with Nick. I'm always going to have feelings for you, but you have to understand that I'm not coming back to you. I want to be with Nick."
"Elena..."
"Jesus Mark, do you realize what I've done?" she sobbed "Oh my God, you have to go....you have to leave now."
"What?"
"You've gotta go Mark. Now!" Elena said hysterically.
"Ok, ok. I'll go." Mark said, collecting his clothes.
Elena closed the door behind him and sank to the floor in tears.
****
"Ello?" Elena asked.
"Hi darling." her mum chirped.
"Fuck me." she thought to herself. "Just what I need."
"Elena?"
"Hi mum." She groaned.
"Haven't heard from you in how many weeks now? Your father and I thought you might be dead or taken hostage."
"Patsy, leave her alone." her father yelled in the background.
"Really Gerald, it wound't hurt her to call us or visit once and awhile." Patsy yelled back.
"Mum....I really don't have time for this right now."
"Excuse me young lady? What do you mean you don't have time for this? You don't call, you don't visit....." her mum ranted until Elena slammed down the phone.
"Jesus Christ." Elena mumbled.
****
"Yes?" Elena said as she answered the door buzzer.
"It's me, Ele." Erin replied.
"C'mon up."
"Are you ok?" Erin asked with concern as she entered Elena's flat.
"Just been a long shitty day and it just keeps getting shittier."
"Well, maybe this will cheer you up a bit." Erin said, handing Elena a gift bag full of goodies.
"Thanks, Erin."
"Sure, Ele." Erin managed, spotting an open bottle of Stoli. "How many Ele?" she asked in a very serious tone.
"How many what?"
"Shots of Stoli.....what the hell is going on? You called in today, you look like hell, you've obviously had several shots and I can tell you've been crying."
"Erin, I dunno what happened." Elena said, bursting into tears.
"Ele, talk to me. What's going on? I can't help you unless I know." Erin said, hugging her friend close. "Just calm down and tell me what's wrong."
"I fucked up Erin. I really fucked up." Elena began. "Mark showed up drunk really late last night. He was telling me that he still loved me and that he was sorry. He was crying, Erin. I didn't know what to do, so I held him and tried to comfort him. The next thing I know, he was kissing me. I should've stopped him, but I didn't." Elena explained through her tears.
"Is that it? You're upset because he kissed you?"
"Erin, when I woke up this morning, Mark was in my bed."
"What?"
"We slept together." Elena admitted, bursting into body racking sobs.
"What the hell were you thinking? Where the fuck was your head?" Erin yelled.
"I don't know, I wasn't thinking."
"Obviously not! Jesus, Ele. Everybody does stupid shit, but you sleeping with your ex-husband takes the cake! Do you know what this would do to Nick? Do you care?"
"Erin, please. I feel guilty enough as it is."
"You haven't begun to feel guilty yet. Do you realise Nick cares about you? He loves you, Ele. He's in love with you, do you understand that? He's put his feelings on the back burner for you cos you told him you wanted to go slow. Elena, how could you do this? Nick loves you for fuck's sake! And all you can say is you like him?" Erin ranted "Would you have shagged Daniel had I not been here that night?"
"No, I've been through with Daniel, you know that."
"You've been through with Mark since you divorced him 3 years ago too. Ele, you have a relationship with Nick, a very physical relationship. You know he loves you and you pull a stunt like this?"
"I know Erin. I didn't mean for anything to happen with Mark. I swear I didn't. I would hurt Nick purposefully. He's a wonderful man and..." Elena sobbed until she couldn't speak any longer.
"And what Ele? Talk to me." Erin pleaded.
"I love him." Elena managed in a small, weak voice.
"Tell him, Ele. You have to tell him."
"Not until I get all these other feelings sorted out."
"What other feelings?"
"Erin, you know I still have feelings for Mark. I probably always will. I still have some unresolved feelings for Daniel, even though he's a bastard, that I must sort out. Then there's Nick. I have all these feelings and I don't know what in the hell to do."
"You've got some serious thinking to do then."
"I know." Elena sighed.
"Ele, you know I love you. You're my best friend, my sister. I only want what's best for you and I want you to be happy." Erin said calmly as she hugged her tight and breathed a long sigh.
"Thank you. I love you too. I dunno what I'd do without you."
"You'd be in a world of shit constantly." Erin laughed.
"You're probably right." Elena sniffed.
"Look, get washed up and relax. You need it. I'm gonna get home. John probably thinks I've run away."
"I will. Thank you for my goodies and for coming by."
"You're welcome." Erin said hugging her before she left Elena's flat.
******
"Ello m'dear." John said as Erin entered the living room.
"Hey." she replied, laying her bag and briefcase down.
"Come here." he purred, pulling her down on his lap. "Did you have a rough day?"
"No, it was pretty good." she smiled.
"You sure? You don't look very happy."
"I'm fine, really." she assured him, laying her head on his shoulder.
"Erin, I can tell something's bothering you. Talk to me luv." he pleaded "What's wrong?"
"I dunno...something's going on with Ele." she said through tears. "I get upset when she's upset."
"Shhhh..." he said, stroking her hair. "What is it?"
"I can't John. Ele would kill me. It hurts me to say that to you." she cried "I don't want any secrets between us, but Ele would kill me."
"I understand, luv. It's ok." John assured her softly as he held her.
"Thank you." she whimpered, burying her face in the soft skin of his neck and his soft hair.
********
"God, what now?" Elena thought when she heard the knock on the door. She braced herself for who she might find on the other side. She turned the knob and opened the door.
"Nick." she said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Ello, luv." he smiled, hugging her tight. "I missed you."
"You should've stayed last night then." she replied, wishing he had stayed.
"Sorry, luv. I had to make those calls. I'll make it up to you, I promise."
"Will you now?" She teased.
"I will...get your stuff."
"Why? What's going on?" she questioned.
"We're going to my house tonight." Nick annouced
"Ok." she smiled, thinking that was a good idea, she needed to be out of her flat, alone with Nick.
*******
Nick led her into his house. He had a fire going, some wine breathing for them and glasses set out.
"Ah, you had this planned, didn't you?" she asked in a low, seductive voice.
"Yes, I did. I had every intention on getting you back here with me, so we could be alone." he admitted.
"Hmmm...trying to seduce me, yeah?"
"Maybe." he purred in her ear.
"You don't have to try." she whispered, nibbling his ear and kissing his neck.
"Slow down." Nick begged.
"I don't want to slow down." Elena managed, working her way down his neck and throat, before she practically ripped his shirt from his body.
Elena's warm lips and tongue ran along his collarbones, down his chest and danced around his nipples. Her hands drifed down to the waistband of his trousers, popping the button, letting them fall to the floor. "Ele..." Nick panted.
But she didn't hear. Her hands roaming and caressing every inch of his svelte body. His breaths were coming quicker, more ragged. His chest heaving. Nick's knees became weak at the feel of her lips on his pulsing erection. Her mouth was warm, wet and felt so good, but he had to stop her, or else it would all be over. He took control by unzipping her causual dress and letting it fall away from her body and pulling her up, back to standing. Nick's lips left light, feathery kisses on her pouty lips, before giving way to harder, hungrier kisses. He kissed his way down her throat, teasing her with light bites to her sensitive nipples. She cried out, unable to handle this torture any longer. "Nick....please. I want you now." she whimpered. "Not just yet, luv." he purred as he nipped and nudged her thighs. Her body stiffened and shuddered as soon as his mouth touched her. She writhed around, screaming his name, begging him for more, but he ignored her cries and continued to pleasure her. Elena's voice was hoarse from screaming, her body was moist with sweat, she was ready and pulsing for him when he slowly crawled up closer to Elena and covered her body with his. Nick's lips covered hers. She kissed him greedily and deeply. Her hips grinding against his, wanting and waiting for him to fill her. He slowly entered her, his length taken immediately by her willing body and tightening around him. His thrusts were slow at first, driving Elena crazy, making her move her hips faster against his. She wrapped her legs around his waist, plunging him deeper still inside her, causing Nick to suck in a deep breath and causing him to thrust faster. "Niiiiiiiick!!!" she screamed as the waves and throbs of her orgasm ripped through her whole body and into Nick's. He felt his own release coming quickly as his body tensed up. He let out a long, loud moan.
Nick awoke. it was dark out and they'd been asleep for only a little while. He looked down at Elena as she slept. She looked like an angel to him. He lightly kissed her forehead and ran his finger down her cheek. "I love you, Ele." he whispered, before he wrapped his arms around her again and drifted back to sleep.
Nick awoke the next morning to an empty bed.Elena had left a note on her pillow. "Nick, I have alot to catch up on today, so I decided to go to the office early. Forgive me for leaving without saying bye, but I didn't want to wake you.I am sure I will talk to you soon. Ele." Nick read the note and drifted back to sleep.
"Good Morning Ms. Touchstone. You are early today.Anything I can get for you?" Jude asked as Elena made her way to her office. "Yeah..some coffee and a list of all my appointments. I left my organizer at home." "Right away." Jude said as she disappeared out of sight. Elena went in her office and dove headfirst into the pile of paperwork she had been neglecting. Jude came and went without Elena paying much notice. It was hours before Elena's attention was caught again. There was a knock at her office door. "Come in." Elena called. "Hi ya." Erin said coming in "Are you ready to go to lunch?" she continued. "Can't today, sorry. I have a lunch appointment." Elena said barely looking up from her desk. "Um..Ok then...I'll catch ya later." Erin said turning to walk away. "Fuck." Elena mumbled after Erin shut the door "I wish my bloody head would stop pounding."
That evening Elena opted to walk the few blocks home to her flat. She detoured a few blocks and found herself standing in front of the old house she shared with Mark. She was so lost in thought she didn't hear the footsteps behind her. "Hey..you ok?" Mark asked quietly as he touched her arm. "Huh? Oh yeah. I was on my way home when I realised that I haven't seen the house in ages." "Why don't you come in? It's getting chilly out...I'll fix some dinner." Mark smiled warmly. "What the heck...I mean I am here." Elena said taking his hand and walking up the stairs to the house.
They entered the house. Mark closed the door, while Elena made her way down the foyer, looking into the rooms that she'd decorated years ago.
"Elena?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you ok?"
"Sure. I just haven't been here in so long...I can't believe everything's still the same."
"Is that bad?" Mark asked
"No,no. It's fine, just odd, I suppose."
"Odd because I kept everything the same?"
"Ok, maybe odd was the wrong word." she laughed.
"C'mon, let's get something to eat." he said, taking her arm.
Mark and Elena enjoyed their dinner and were relaxing over a glass of wine. She noticed that Mark was looking at her in a most serious manner.
"Something wrong?" she asked.
"Elena, exactly what did I say that night? Was I a prat?"
"Well, you told me you still love me and no, you weren't a prat. Just upset."
"What happened? I have no idea what went on that night. All I know is that you were really upset the next morning."
"I don't even know exactly what happened, Mark. You were telling me how you felt....you were crying and I just held you. I didn't know what else to do. When you kissed me, I should've stopped you and before I knew it, you'd carried me into my bedroom." Elena explained.
"And we made love..." Mark said softly. "That explains why I woke up in your bed then."
"Yes. I'm sorry I reacted the way I did. I just overreacted a bit."
"It's ok Elena. I guess I understand. I am curious though."
"About what?"
"You weren't drinking, you were sober. So, why didn't you stop me?"
"Jesus Mark, I dunno. I've been asking myself the same question over and over."
"Elena, you know how I feel about you. Those feelings aren't going to disappear. I do love you and I would love to have you back in my life, in our home."
"I know Mark."
"Do you feel anything for me? Is it all gone?"
"I do care about you, Mark. I dunno...." she stammered. "I should go. Thank you for dinner."
"You're welcome, luv." Mark said, opening the door for her.
"Bye, Mark."
He watched her walk down the stairs and onto the sidewalk until he could no longer see her.
*****
Elena entered her flat, grateful to be home and alone. Her answerphone flashed, showing she had messages. She drew in a breath and pressed play. Luckily Erin was the only one who'd called. Elena kicked off her shoes, shrugged off her clothes, put on her robe and fell back on the sofa to relax. Her eyes were closed and she was deep in thought when the ringing of the phone startled her.
"Ello?" She asked.
"Ele! Where ya been?" Erin asked.
"I just had to get out and clear my head after I left the office."
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just gonna relax tonight. I think I need some alone time."
"Sounds good. I just wanted to make sure you were alright."
"Thanks Erin. I appreciate it."
"Not a problem....go get some rest and enjoy your time alone."
"I will." Elena promised.
She hung up and went into the kitchen, popped the cork on a bottle of wine and grabbed a glass. It'd been awhile since she'd spent a night alone in her place. Tonight, the peace and quiet was more than welcome. The silence was short and was broken by the sound of the phone again.
"Ello?" She answered.
"Ello, Ele." Nick replied.
"Hey you."
"How are you?"
"I'm fine, just relaxing after a long day. I'm sorry I didn't wake you before I left, but it was so early."
"It's ok, luv. I read your note, I understand. I just wanted to call you and say hi and see how you're doing."
"I'm glad you did."
"Me too. I miss you."
"I miss you too."
"I'll call you tomorrow for dinner."
"Sounds great."
"Good. I'll talk to you tomorrow then. Goodnight."
"G'night, Nick."
She laid the phone down and ran her hands through her hair.
"How did I get into this mess....and how the hell do I get out?" she asked aloud.
Realising that the answers were more than likely not going to be found that evening, Elena headed off to bed.On her way to her room she passed the basket that held her wedding album.Being unable to resist, she picked it up and took a quick glance. The page she opened it to held the picture of her and Mark kissing after their vows.Elena smiled as a single tear ran down her cheek.
"Ello?" Elena asked groggily. "Did I wake you?" Mark asked thoughtfully. "Um..yeah. That's ok." "Sorry. I just wanted to say goodnight and let you know that I was thinking of you." "That's sweet, Mark. Night." Elena said with a smile as she hung up the phone. ****************************************** "Erin..wake up luv." John whispered. "Wha?" Erin asked half asleep. "I know it's the middle of the night..Just trust me." John said as Erin sat up and pulled on her robe. John took her by the hand and led her down the stairs. The entire house was lit by candlelight. "What is this John?" Erin asked looking around "What are you up to?" "Come sit." John said motioning for Erin to sit next to him on the couch. Erin did as she was asked and waited for John to speak. "Erin..I love you so much. I have never felt anything like this for anyone. I knew from the first second that we met that we were made for eachother." "I feel the same John." Erin replied taking his hand. "I'm glad you said that.I'm just gonna say this before I loose my nerve...Erin will you marry me?" John asked in a rush. "What?" Erin asked stunned. "Will you marry me?" John asked again. Tears filled Erins eyes. She was speechless. "Oh God..This is too fast.Isn't it?" John asked nervously as he stood from the couch. "Yes." Erin replied simply. "Yes you'll marry me? Or yes it's too fast?" John asked turning to face Erin. "Yes....I'll marry you." Erin said standing and flying into Johns waiting arms.
"You will?" he asked, stunned.
"Yes, John. I will." She smiled with tears in her eyes.
"You've just made me very happy." he held her and squeezed her tight. John kissed her gently before he pulled away from her and turned away.
"John?" she asked.
"I almost forgot."
"Forgot what?"
"This." he said, turning to face her again, sliding a large 2 carat Princess cut diamond on her finger.
"John....it's so beautiful." she whispered as the tears formed.
"I'm glad you like it. I knew it'd look great on you."
"Like it? I love it!" she cried.
"Shhh...don't cry sweetheart." he said, hugging her close.
"I'm sorry." she cried "I'm just so happy."
"I love you Erin. I love you very much."
"I love you too." she managed as she gazed deep into his chocolate eyes.
Erin's hands held his square jaw as they kissed. Soft, feathery kisses showered her face. They were soon replaced by his lips crushing against hers in a hot, smoldering kiss. His long fingers caressed the back of her neck and ran through her hair. He felt her body melting into his, her fingers digging into his shoulders with urgency. John laid her down slowly and gently on the floor, his mouth leaving warm, wet kisses along her throat until his lips found her's again. Erin's kisses were hungry and eager. She pulled away and began to leave soft kisses along his jaw, working her way down his neck. She teased him with light kisses on his collarbones, leaving harder kisses as she moved down his chest. John found the belt to her robe and pulled the bow free, allowing it to open like a present. He could see her clearly, the candle light making her skin glow and shimmer. He cupped a breast, taking it into his mouth. Her breath hitched and her body writhed against his. His mouth and tongue teased her mercilessly until she cried out for him. He rolled her to her back, settling his weight on her. The soft hair on his chest rubbing against her sensitive nipples, driving her mad. He gazed down at her, locking his eyes with her's as he entered her. He saw the pleasure in her eyes and on her face as his length filled her. He moved slowly, savouring each movement and thrust. Erin's eyes closed and her neck arched back as the first wave of release hit her.
"John...." she whimpered over and over again. The excitment in his body peaked, he felt the pulsing sensation as his orgasm ripped through him, making him thrust harder each time taking Erin over the edge with him.
They didn't move, both spent, heart's racing and breathing laboured. John clutched Erin, holding her tight as he kissed her gently. They didn't speak a word as they basked in the afterglow of their lovemaking.
Once they'd recovered, they lay in the glowing candle light. John circled his arm around her. She laid her head on his chest, unable to stop smiling as she stared at the engagement ring on her finger. "Erin Taylor." John said. " I like the sound of that." "Hmmm...I think I like it too." she teased.
"Do you prefer Mrs. Taylor?"
"I dunno Mr. Taylor."
"I kinda like Mrs. John Taylor. Whaddaya think?" he asked, wagging his eyebrows.
"I think I like that too." she smiled before she kissed him. "Ummm....we do have something to consider though."
"What's that, luv?"
"Well, obviously, we're gonna have to tell everybody sometime...I think they're gonna notice the huge diamond on my finger."
"You've gotta point. We could get Nick and Elena over here to tell them, then we can tell everyone else."
"Yeah, we've gotta tell them first. We should do it soon though. I don't think I can hide my hand from Ele forever and I'm not taking this ring off."
John and Erin continued to talk and make plans well into the night. Both unable to sleep due to the excitment from his proposal and her acceptance. The sun rose as they fell asleep in each other's arms.
